AAF Madison Remembers Rod Barelmann
It is with great sadness we inform you of the death of Rod Barelmann. Rod was a long-time member of Ad Fed and president of Concept Productions.
He passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 18.
When Rod was critical of Ad Fed, he was asked to run for a position on the Board, He did, won the election and went on to serve as President during
1989-90. When he was President, Rod had a car phone and ran up that bill because he was constantly in contact with the Ad Fed office. Rarely did
a day go by that he didn't check in to see if there was something he should or could be doing.
When he attended the AAF Conference in Los Angeles in 1988, he discovered that there was an Executive Directors meeting. So, in true Rod fashion, he
attended the meeting and was immediately asked to leave when it was discovered that he wasn't an ED. When he returned from the conference, it was his
mission to convince the Board to send Lois to the conferences...he was successful.
For a number of years, Concept Productions hosted the ADDY judging for the broadcast entries. Judges were always impressed with being able to view this
in such a wonderful production facility.
In 1995, Rod was honored with the Silver Medal Award. At the time, the name of the recipient was not announced ahead of time and Rod was completely
surprised...much in part because we had asked him to provide a voice over for another person! We managed to bring in his family for the evening, which
again was a surprise to him. It was a fun-filled evening which was fashioned as a roast.
Just this fall, Rod was named a trustee to the MAF (AAF Madison) Foundation where he served as treasurer. He was looking forward to reviewing the
applications and awarding scholarships to area college students.
AAF-Madison has made a $50 donation to Hospicecare in his memory.

A Message from our President, Tom Keeler - April 2009
As we head into the last few month's of our AAF Madison 2008-09 fiscal year, I begin my monthly article with some sad
news. Former Madison Ad Fed President, Silver Medal winner and recent AAF Madison Foundation Trustee Rod Barelmann
unexpectedly passed away on March 18, 2009. Rod was an active member in Ad Fed, the local ad industry, and our
community for over two decades. We are a better organization and industry because of Rod's service and commitment,
and our condolences go to his family.
Rod's commitment reminds us of how important member participation is in the strength of the club. If you have
considered becoming more involved, now is the time as we are starting to recruit members to serve on AAF Madison's
2009-10 Board. We are looking for volunteers among our membership to fill the following four board positions: ADDYs
(two Directors are needed), Public Relations (one Director is needed), Website/Newsletter (one Director is needed),
and Education (one Director is needed). As President this year, I have thoroughly enjoyed serving on the Board and
will remain on the Executive Committee as Past President next year. If you are interested, please contact me before
I contact you.
